60's coffee set

I'm very happy with this complete coffee set I found in my local charity shop this morning...

It's Figgjo Flint - a norwegian porcelain company - this design is called 'Rolf' after the designer Rolf Froyland.

I particularly like the coffee pot and the little milk jug

Lemon table mat

I bought this lemon design table mat from jenny duff last week, I first saw it at  Mid century Modern back in March and I kept going back to the website to look at it - anyone who's read my clogs posts will know it takes me a while to make purchasing decisions!

anyway, I'm very happy with it, and i actually think it's too good to be a table mat so it's going to go on the wall in my new kitchen. I say 'new kitchen' as things finally seem to be moving forward with my house move, my offers been accepted and solicitors are doing their thing so fingers crossed. I've become pretty jaded with the whole thing as this is the 4th house i've almost moved into, so I won't believe it 'til I'm actually there. This one needs a fair bit of work so I'm looking forward to really making it my own. Watch this space...

Queuing at the check-out recently I picked up a copy of Good Homes magazine, it's not a magazine I've ever bought before probably because it doesn't really look like my kind of thing, however, when I was flicking through, I turned a page and my heart skipped a beat when I saw...

this deeply desirable room...

it is the dutch home of Josefin Ljungberg and Stephen de Jager.
As you would expect its not the kind of house that a magazine can simply list the sources of the furniture and accessories - which is a pity as I'd love to get some of those cushions - as with all my favourite homes its an eclectic mix of things that have been inherited or acquired and things that have been bought in markets, boot-sales and junk shops as well as the high street.

wouldn't you love to curl up with a good book in that pile of cushions?

homes that look too perfect and 'done' are a real pet hate of mine, i like a home to look lived in and personal, I want friends to feel comfortable and not to worry that they might mark a pristine surface

this children's room looks ideal as its practical and comfortable as well as looking really good

I also picked up the july issue of Elle Decoration, which I often find is too full of pristine 'done' homes for my taste, but I did discover one I really like...

it is the home of Helen Johannessen, the founder of Yoyo Ceramics (check out the website her work is really rather fabulous)

I love the look of this room, the formica table, the 50's footstool and the brightly coloured cushions

again its a stylish individual look which is also very relaxed and unpretentious

Yay I got me clogs!

well, well, well, indecisive me finally bought some clogs...

if you read my previous clog post you know that I was concerned about practicality and heel height, well having spent many hours perusing the Lotta from Stockholm website, I had a read of their blog and discovered they also had a low-heeled style in stock, 'could be the ones for me' I thought.

Anyway after a bit of a chat on the phone with the super-helpful and very friendly Lotta I decided to go for these...

and I'm very happy with my choice!

I discovered Lotta from Stockholm thanks to the wonderful Hannah at seeds and stitches - thank you!

also my daughter and I went and got her some cool new loafers for school from the fantastico kate kanzier on leather lane. we love kate kanzier mainly for the following reasons:

1. the shoes are all very stylish

2. they use minimal amounts of leather - the outer shoe is synthetic but the inner is leather-lined, we like this as we are veggies

3. they cost less than other super cool shoes - these loafers were £25

I would never have known about kate kanzier if it hadn't been for artemis russell and her always beautiful and inspiring blog junkaholique

shoes and stuff

I'm coveting shoes at the moment....

I love these simple stylish brogues from NW3

and these two from Office

I like these plain ones from Office as they remind me of these beauties from Dieppa Restrepo but at a fraction of the cost...

perfectly gorgeous aren't they?

On a totally different subject I recently found a nice old Penguin copy of The Group by Mary McCarthy, a book I've been wanting to read for ages as it's so often mentioned as being ground-breaking and revolutionary. The quote on the back is pretty enthusiastic anyway. I'm looking forward to getting stuck in...
