Moving chaos

Well, I'm right in the middle of moving house at the moment, my lovely old house has gone to new owners and the new one isn't fit to live in (more on that later...), we're currently relying on lovely friends to let us stay in their houses while they're on holiday, which means I don't have access to my computer at the mo (must get a laptop) so blogging is tricky as I can't get to my photos. I know I should probably be techie enough to do it all from my phone or something but I'm afraid I'm just not.

I can't wait to show you all the hideous 'before' photos and - fingers crossed - some fabulous 'after photos'.

WARNING - the 'before pics will include black and blue checked carpet, lots of mouse poo and .....(oh horror)...rat poo!!!

Having spent ages fantasising about decorating my scuzzy new home I'm now feeling under pressure to make loads of decisions very quickly. Do you realise how many different styles of bathroom sinks there are out there??

It's all quite mind boggling.

I've got to choose a kitchen quickly as at the moment I've just got a totally empty room, so I was interested to read Ray's post about her thoughts on kitchens.

She talks about not rushing into decisions and letting things evolve, I couldn't agree more and I love her collection of photos of inviting, quirky kitchens - well worth a look.

However, I think I'm probably going to go for a very simple ikea kitchen, and although I know it's a pretty dull choice I'm hoping I'll be able to personalise it by adding my own stuff and putting pictures on the wall etc...

I've also got to choose carpet for the upstairs and I haven't a clue where to start - wish me luck!

Over the last few months I've bought a few cushion covers for my new home...

this one is from Jane Foster who makes a huge array of beautiful cushion covers in loads of bright colours, I love this green.

I also bought these four beauties...

can you tell I'm always attracted to green things?

I'm ashamed to say I can't remember who made the Orla Keily pear one all I know is I bought it on ebay and it's very beautifully made. The other three are from thirty-five flowers and are also beautifully made. Ooh i can't wait arrange them all in my future house! (still no moving date...)

Market treasure

Oh dear, I promised myself I wouldn't buy anymore house stuff from charity shops and car-boots until I'd moved house and worked out what we've actually got room for...but then a lovely friend asked me to accompany her to an antique fair and I just couldn't resist. I was, however, fairly restrained.

I picked up these miniature silhouette pictures...

This melamine tray...

and my favourite, this gorgeous deep green glass vase...

now I really must not buy anymore housey stuff until I've moved (which should be pretty soon - fingers crossed)

60's coffee set

I'm very happy with this complete coffee set I found in my local charity shop this morning...

It's Figgjo Flint - a norwegian porcelain company - this design is called 'Rolf' after the designer Rolf Froyland.

I particularly like the coffee pot and the little milk jug

Lemon table mat

I bought this lemon design table mat from jenny duff last week, I first saw it at  Mid century Modern back in March and I kept going back to the website to look at it - anyone who's read my clogs posts will know it takes me a while to make purchasing decisions!

anyway, I'm very happy with it, and i actually think it's too good to be a table mat so it's going to go on the wall in my new kitchen. I say 'new kitchen' as things finally seem to be moving forward with my house move, my offers been accepted and solicitors are doing their thing so fingers crossed. I've become pretty jaded with the whole thing as this is the 4th house i've almost moved into, so I won't believe it 'til I'm actually there. This one needs a fair bit of work so I'm looking forward to really making it my own. Watch this space...
